Session Title: Accelerating the Adoption of Biophilic Design

Description: ON DEMAND

To understand the barriers that building owners, architects, and designers are experiencing when specifying biophilic design, GPGB collaborated with Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens on a survey designed to identify common barriers these building professionals face when they specify biophilic design. Join Phipps Conservatory’s Ecopsychology Research Scientist Katilyn Mascatelli, Ph.D., as she shares their responses on current usage of indoor plants, familiarity with biophilic design, and common roadblocks to implementation, as well as how these responses vary by type of building.

This session is part of the Cultivate’21 on-demand package. Access to this package is available through separate purchase. To learn more about how to purchase the Cultivate’21 on-demand education package go to AmericanHort.org/Cultivate/On-demand.

Mary Golden works for the non-profit Green Plants for Green Buildings as an Advocacy Incubator.

Over the last several years Mary has been

    - having conversations with building specifiers to discover their barriers to specifying plants and nature,

    - writing continuing education curriculum for GPGB’s Registered Trainer programs to lower these barriers,

    - and producing Seminars for Interiorscapers, all with the goal of bringing more nature indoors and creating a healthier future for us all.

Green Plants for Green Buildings ... Communicating the Aesthetic, Wellbeing and Economic Benefits of Nature in the Built Environment.
At Green Plants for Green Buildings, our purpose is communicating the aesthetic, environmental, productivity and health benefits of plants in the built environment. GPGB is a 501c3 not-for-profit organization. Biophilia is the instinctive bond between human beings and other living organisms and living systems. Research suggests that buildings that contain features of preferred natural environments will be more supportive of human well-being and performance than those that do not contain these features.
