Women In Horticulture

A powerful, inspiring networking experience

MONDAY JULY 12 FROM 12 – 1:30 PM
Workshop to be held at the Greater Columbus Convention Center

Cost: $65 includes lunch

This year is Women in Horticulture at Cultivate – an educational networking event for women in the green industry. Leslie Halleck, of Halleck Horticultural, LLC will kick off the event with a short, high-energy inspirational talk to guide you in bringing your own personal strengths and inner superpowers to the surface. After opening remarks, Halleck will facilitate a panel discussion with the following accomplished women in the green industry: 

  • Lisa Minter-Buston is the Manager of Garden Retail at Minter Country Garden of Chilliwack, British Columbia 
  • Terri McEnany is the CEO/Owner of Bailey Nurseries Inc. of St. Paul, MN 
  • Leslie Herdon is Vice President of Operations for Greenscape Inc/Franklin Hill Farm Nursery of Holly Springs, NC
  • Suzi McCoy Retired Founder Garden Media Group

Hosted by the AmericanHort GenNext Community, everyone is encouraged to make this THE networking event of their Cultivate’21 experience. Come to Cultivate’s popular Unplugged event where you can relax, be yourself, and network with people with the same passion for plants, ambition for success, and hopes for the future of our industry.  

Unplugged is also an opportunity for celebration! The?GrowerTalks/The HC Companies Young Grower Award and?Green Profit/The Garden Center Group Young Retailer Award are presented to worthy candidates that demonstrate passion, creativity, leadership and a desire to excel. Winners of the 2021 awards will be announced beginning at approximately 8:30 p.m.? 

Be sure to bring the ticket that is printed on your registration badge and your first drink is on us! 

Flower Run 

SUNDAY JULY 11 AT 6:30 AM

Cost: $30, price increases on June 19th

Luxflora,?GIE Media, and?AmericanHort?bring you the 5th annual Flower Run 5K at Cultivate. The Flower Run celebrates Luxflora’s mission to develop a visionary, influential floriculture network in which women leaders can create, inspire, and flourish. This is an opportunity for all of us to come together to network, build relationships, and to have some healthy fun. 

Not a runner? Join us at the finish line to help us celebrate the finishers. 

OSU Plant Trials

SATURDAY JULY 10 5-7:30 PM

Unleash your inner plant nerd and assess 400 annual and perennial varieties on display at The Ohio State University Cultivar Trials. See how they grow in typical Central-Ohio environmental conditions, and evaluate their growth in containers, landscape beds, and hanging basics. Also be sure to check out Howlett Hall's green roof. Open to all attendees. Free shuttle rides from the Convention Center are available -- final departure from OSU back to downtown Columbus is at 7 PM. 

Franklin Park Conservatory & Botanical Gardens Tour 

MONDAY JULY 12 FROM 5-7:30 PM

If experiencing landscapes, botanic gardens, and conservatories makes your heart sing, you'll want to be sure to check out Columbus' own Franklin Park Conservatory and Botanical Garden. You have our permission to get totally excited about an evening in the garden. Once onsite, there are 2 tour options available: (1) Tour of the Scotts Miracle-Gro Foundation Children's Garden - this new 2-acre garden opened in May 2018 and is the largest horticulture project ever undertaken by the Conservatory. Featuring sixteen different interactive experiences celebrating the Ohio landscape, the Garden's focus is on introducing and connecting children to the natural world, as well as renewing that connection for their parents and caregivers. (2) Tour of the Conservatory - the Conservatory’s extensive gardens and art collections pulse with life and bring the truly exotic wonders of nature right to you. Explore over 400 species of plants from around the world.
